If you’re looking to avoid long-term knee problems, scientists have discovered the top sports that you want to avoid.
Tufts Medical Center in Boston has concluded new research that lists elite soccer as the most likely sport to lead to knee arthritis.
Right behind that beautiful game was competitive long-distance running, weightlifting and wrestling. All three sports put plenty of stress on the knees and can often bring immediate injuries as well as long-term arthritis ramifications.
On the bright side, the scientists do have a list of sports that allow us to remain active but also have minimal long-term damage to knee cartilage. Some of these include basketball, boxing, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, and track and field.
Doctors also have one key to staying pain-free in the knee: Keep your weight down. Weight problems are among the leading causes of arthritis, along with family history and aging.
